Grand Bend Ontario

This was our first project in the town of Grand Bend Ontario which is located about 200 kms west of Toronto. This client is a special client. We had already done work for him in the city of Toronto and it was a pleasure for us to be invited to work on his cottage as well.

The cottage looks completely new and modern. The kitchen is lovely and the living room is enormous. The client and his interior designer were so nice to work with. We loved working in Grand Bend. It is a beautiful place.

The demolished all the interior of the house for both basement and main floor. We installed new doors and windows to be able to work during the winter. The existing kitchen of the main floor was enclosed but the rest of the living room was open. We had to removed the walls of the kitchen and incorporate it into the dining room. This made the whole main floor of the cottage more open and inviting.

On the north and south of the house we built 2 additions to the property. The foundation was done without basement as requested by the client. Riccio Excavating (riccioexcavating.com) did the excavation and the waterproofing.

We built the deck on the side of the house making sure it followed the same elevation as the main floor.

The winter was no issue while we were working on the exterior framing of the north and south additions. We built the new walls and the roof extension. It is always a challenge extending an existing roof because it must follow the roof line.

The architect wanted us to keep the original concept of the stairs but with a custom design for the hand rails and the steps. As requested by him we made the handrails as a single piece of cedar wood and glass. The steps were custom made by us using white oak. The result is a beautiful stair system that looks modern and simple.

We replaced the old floors with new engineered white oak.

The original kitchen was a closed room with an exterior door. The architected asked us to build a bigger kitchen incorporated with the open design of the rest of the main floor and to remove the exterior door to the kitchen. The kitchen was designed and installed by Falcon Kitchens (falconkitchens.com). The counter top is carrara marble.

This is a lake side cootage and for that reason the client wanted an exterior shower next to his new bathroom. We built the outside shower as shown in the photos below. The deck of this outside shower is made of IP wood which is one of the strongest and better wood used to build decks. We finished the shower with a large stone and IP wood siding as well. New plumbing was done for this shower. We ended up installing 2 new septic tanks for the entire sewer system of the cottage.

The doors facing the lake were replaced with bigger doors. We built a 6′ x 72′ stone deck just outside the doors and completed the landscaping all around the house.
